SIDNEY COLWYN FOULKES
Sidney Colwyn Foulkes "SCF", at aged 16, became the sole provider for his family when his father passed away. At the time, Sidney was employed as a joiner and builder. He worked tenaciously to ensure financial security for his family, achieving a prestigious scholarship to study architecture under Professor Sir Charles Reilly, Head of the Liverpool School of Architecture.

After serving in the war within the Royal Air Force, he returned to Colwyn Bay, Wales, and founded Colwyn Foulkes in 1910.

Alongside receiving an OBE, Sidney was an ingenious cinema designer, pioneer of the celebrated American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Freeman of the Borough, founding member of the Historic Buildings Council for Wales and was intensively active in the Council for Protection of Rural Wales.

The Guardian newspaper described him as an architect of extraordinary ingenuity and persistence.

RALPH & ELIZABETH COLWYN FOULKES
Ralph Colwyn Foulkes, son of Sidney, joined the family business in 1949 after qualifying as an architect at Liverpool University. During his time as an architect, he was awards civic trust and national awards.
Elizabeth Colwyn Foulkes, Ralph's wife, also joined the practise in 1954 and was also awarded an MBE for her services to architecture.
NICK COLWYN FOULKES
Nick Colwyn Foulkes is the grandson of Sidney Colwyn Foulkes, and he continues to run operate the family business today.
After joining the business post-university, Nick joined the Welsh office in Colwyn Bay, before opening a second office in the capital.
The company retained it's Welsh office for a number of years, before Nick moved the business to London, where the architecture industry was and still remains to prosper.
