Colwyn Foulkes is proud to have worked with the Sussex Aids Trust to develop Sussex Beacon, which was the first purpose build AIDS Hospice in Britain.
The Hospice cares for terminally ill, and convalescent patients. The entire building is designed to cater for full mobility standards whilst avoiding any impression of an institution.
The atrium of the building was designed to bring light into the building on every floor, as well as creating an entrance to the care centre that felt neither too enclosed or exposed. This was a response to our understanding of the delicate balance between public awareness and private illness.
Costs were kept down by using a timber frame construction system. The design allows for easy extension later, if required.
